Open new Microsoft Office documents in Windows
I just realized that some of you may still be having problems opening the new Office documents in Windows too, so I thought I'd add a follow-up. This issue is address in an automatic update for Office from Microsoft Update (not to be confused with Windows Update). You can also download the compatibility package direct from Microsoft here. Once installed, you'll be able to open those pesky Open XML documents (docx, xlsx, etc) that come with Office 2007, and can stop asking the creator to save them down to the previous format for you.
